AUXERRE, CITE DES VAUVIERS : 162 DWELLINGS
1994

SAHLM D'AUXERRE

Initial context

A long used halfway house located opposite a future building area for individual private housing, slated for demolition. The halfway house is inhabited by the poorest people of the city who cannot afford any other forms of accommodation. The flats are small and have low maintenance costs.

Our aims   Project

To continue housing the original population, increase the size of the flats and enhance the aspect of the building in order to suit the development of the nearby residential area.

To enlarge the kitchens which have been coupled by the construction of balconies and outside drying areas. The latter, protected by claustras, creates a new facade in front of the former one, and gives the illusion that a new building in brick and terra-cotta has been erected.
