CHATELLERAULT, CITE DES RENARDIERES : 64 DWELLINGS
1986

Initial context

before demolition

-A very low-cost housing estate in a little city in the center of western France.
-A shabby district due to the decay of the buildings and the squatting of itinerants in the car park.

Our aims
  Project

-To relocate the itinerants to an adequate place outside the city.
-To convert the car park into a public square.
-To increase the surface area of the flats by extending what we consider to be the main facades. Located in front of the kitchens, the latter supports the balconies with their outside drying areas. This provides additional outside surface for each family and overlooks the new public square on the sunny side of the building.

-To protect the base at the ground floor level, a brick wave extension undulates between the pillars of the new structure and the enlarged entrance halls and facilities installations (garbage disposal, letter boxes etc...).
